More About Dexter

Deadbolts are popular as a means of extra security in both residential and commercial applications. These locks operate with a key on the outside and either a key or thumbturn on the inside that throws and retracts a solid bolt into the door frame. A deadbolt is very difficult to force open and therefore provides extra  protection against theft. Many people opt for a deadbolt in addition to a standard latch bolt, which, unlike a deadbolt, can be operated with a door knob or lever and it can latch or lock on its own.

A deadbolt that operates with a key on the inside can be a hazard incase of an emergency if the key is not easily accessible. It is therefore recommended to keep the key in the lock or in an easily accessible place near the door. However, care should be taken to ensure the key or thumbturn cannot be reached via a window on or near the door which will make it really simple for a burglar to unlock the deadbolt.
