The ASI 8154 is a recessed specimen pass-through box built for the wall that separates a patient area from a laboratory or collection room. The concept is simple: a specimen is deposited through the door on the patient side, and it becomes retrievable on the lab side only after that first door is closed. The internal bar locking mechanism enforces this one-door-at-a-time operation, so the two sides of the wall are never open to each other at the same time. That keeps contamination risk low and the transfer process clean and controlled.
The cabinet, flanges, piano hinges, door-closing springs, and drip tray are all fabricated from 20-gauge type 304 stainless steel with an 18-8 alloy rating and a satin finish. Stainless was the right material choice here. It is non-porous, easy to wipe down with standard healthcare cleaning agents, and holds up to repeated disinfection without corroding or degrading. Two rubber door silencers inside the cabinet soften the sound of doors closing, which is a small detail that adds up in a clinical environment where quiet matters.
The removable drip tray sits at the base of the cabinet interior and catches any liquid that may accompany a specimen container. Because it lifts out completely, it can be removed, emptied, cleaned, and replaced without any tools or disassembly.
The adjustable flange system accommodates wall depths from 1-3/4 inches to 5-1/2 inches. For walls deeper than 5-1/2 inches, ASI offers the 8155 Extension Sleeve and Flange, which extends the range to 9-7/8 inches. Both the 8154 and 8155 are also available together as the 8156 combination unit.
