(This Product Requires an Additional 2 Days Shipping) The ASI 8154 is a recessed specimen pass-through box designed for the wall between a patient area and a laboratory. Specimens are deposited through one side, and they can only be retrieved from the other side after the first door is returned to the closed position. An internal bar locking mechanism prevents both doors from being open at the same time, which is what keeps the pass-through hygienic and the workflow controlled. The cabinet, flanges, drip tray, piano hinges, and door-closing springs are all stainless steel with a satin finish. The removable drip tray makes cleaning straightforward. The unit fits walls ranging from 1-3/4 inches to 5-1/2 inches deep, and for thicker walls the 8155 Extension Sleeve and Flange is available separately or as part of the 8156 combination.

Overview

The ASI 8154 is a recessed specimen pass-through box built for the wall that separates a patient area from a laboratory or collection room. The concept is simple: a specimen is deposited through the door on the patient side, and it becomes retrievable on the lab side only after that first door is closed. The internal bar locking mechanism enforces this one-door-at-a-time operation, so the two sides of the wall are never open to each other at the same time. That keeps contamination risk low and the transfer process clean and controlled.

The cabinet, flanges, piano hinges, door-closing springs, and drip tray are all fabricated from 20-gauge type 304 stainless steel with an 18-8 alloy rating and a satin finish. Stainless was the right material choice here. It is non-porous, easy to wipe down with standard healthcare cleaning agents, and holds up to repeated disinfection without corroding or degrading. Two rubber door silencers inside the cabinet soften the sound of doors closing, which is a small detail that adds up in a clinical environment where quiet matters.

The removable drip tray sits at the base of the cabinet interior and catches any liquid that may accompany a specimen container. Because it lifts out completely, it can be removed, emptied, cleaned, and replaced without any tools or disassembly.

The adjustable flange system accommodates wall depths from 1-3/4 inches to 5-1/2 inches. For walls deeper than 5-1/2 inches, ASI offers the 8155 Extension Sleeve and Flange, which extends the range to 9-7/8 inches. Both the 8154 and 8155 are also available together as the 8156 combination unit.

More Info

The ASI 8154 is designed specifically for healthcare environments where controlled, hygienic specimen transfer is part of daily operations. Hospitals, medical office buildings, urgent care centers, clinical laboratories, and outpatient collection facilities are all natural applications. Anywhere a physical barrier is needed between a patient-facing space and a clinical work area, the 8154 provides a simple, reliable solution that keeps staff and patients from sharing the same opening at the same time.

The anti-simultaneous latch is the functional core of the unit. It is a passive mechanical system with no electrical components, which means there is nothing to program, power, or troubleshoot. As long as the door on one side is open, the door on the other side cannot be opened. That reliability and simplicity are what make pass-through boxes a long-standing standard in laboratory and clinical design.

For projects with thicker walls, the 8155 Extension Sleeve and Flange extends the 8154's wall depth range from 5-1/2 inches all the way to 9-7/8 inches. The sleeve slides over the cabinet of the 8154 in place of the standard adjustable flange and does not prevent the rear door from opening. The 8156 model combines both the 8154 and 8155 into a single order for convenience.

For LEED-certified projects, the 8154 qualifies under recycled content credits MR 4.1 and MR 4.2, rapidly renewable materials credit MR 6, and low-emitting materials credits EQ 4.1, EQ 4.2, and EQ 4.4. Mounting screws are included; wall preparation and any additional anchoring for masonry or specialty wall conditions are by others.

The 8154 carries a 1-year limited warranty from date of invoice.
