Cylinders are one of the most crucial components of any keyed lock. They allow the correct key to operate a lock or prevent the incorrect key from granting access. Qualified Hardware offers replacement cylinders as well as OEM cylinders and cores for the locks that we provide.

A key cylinder grants or denies access through a door. Cylinders can be provided in a variety of brands and types based on the need. Depending on the application or use, mortise cylinders, rim cylinders or inserts for knobs or lever locks can be supplied in many brands, keyways and finishes.

Also available are interchangeable cores from a variety of vendors. Some use the designation of SFIC, which stands for small format interchangeable core. These cores can be used in locks from a variety of vendors that accept what used to be called Best® compatible cores. Many vendors, including Sargent, Corbin, Schlage, Yale, Assa and Medeco for example, also have their own proprietary core format.

Interchangeable core locks or cylinders have a removable core that can easily be taken out and replaced with a new core – effectively changing the key.  Most lock manufacturers offer an interchangeable core option at a small upcharge over a standard cylinder.
